Outing - April 20, 2017 - Greer Pond, Peterson Pond, White Creek
Good News Hanne and her gang of Intrepid Naturalists want to report a very
successful outing today in terms of awesome sightings and spectacular scenery .
Not to be chased off by the downpour we managed to tour by car and enjoy short
walks in this area of Balmoral.
Our first visit was to the beautiful
pond on Greer Road (see photo) which was a little quiet with coots, mallards and
buffleheads today. We can't wait to get back on a warm day and await the
unfolding of much more wildlife action from the quiet roadside near it.
we travelled to the large and prolific pond on Peterson Road. Here we watched a
Swainson's hawk gobble a mouse while its mate hunkered down in her fluffed up
plumage to fend off the weather. A ruddy duck was showy amongst a variety of
different ducks out enjoying the wet day.
As we travelled along the
tumultuous White Creek Hanne was pleased to deliver on her promise to see a
gorgeous wood duck. This creek side road was a visual treasure. Thanks, Hanne,
for a wonderful morning.
Hanne sends this list of birds.
