Rocky Martinson Park, June 15, 2017
The day was overcast and threatening with rain but seven intrepid Naturalists
enjoyed the beautiful drive along Eagle Bay road to Rocky Martinson Park Trail.
In the forested, north slope path we could see a variety of flowers and trees
while enjoying the birdsong. Highlights were the Ladyslipper Orchid and the Rein
Orchid. Along with the glorious Swainson's Thrush song we could hear a Pacific
Two kilometres farther along the road was Shannon Beach Park Trail
System that took us up to a remarkable rock formation overhead. Much discussion
followed as to what this light coloured rock might be. Ed McDonald likened it to
the White Cliffs of Dover! And took a piece of it and wrote on another rock
as if it were chalk.
We all went for a delightful lunch at Sprockets
